Astigmatism is the condition of the eyes where light rays from different angles of the eye do not focus on one point on the retina.

This leads to things looking out of shape or focus.

This is corrected by Cylindrical Powered Lenses. They may also have the spherical power to correct myopia or hypermetropia which can exist in conjunction.

These lenses are also known as Toric lenses.
